Kathmandu: The government has declared a two-day public holiday in a week effective from May 15.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers decided to grant weekly holidays on Saturdays and Sundays, said Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki.

The decision of the government is aimed at reducing the consumption of petroleum products. Earlier the government had curtailed fuel expenditures for government offices by 20 percent considering a decline in foreign exchange reserves.

Earlier today, in a wake of dwindling foreign exchange reserves, the government banned imports of 10 goods.
