Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has appealed to rebel candidates to withdraw their candidacies.

Issuing an appeal on Thursday, Deuba urged rebel candidates of the party to consider the need for the five-party alliance.

“I appeal to the party members who have registered their independent candidacies against the official candidate to withdraw candidacies within the deadline fixed by the Election Commission,” Deuba said in the appeal.

As per the election timetable, candidacies can be withdrawn within 5 pm on Friday.

Earlier on Wednesday, a meeting of the five-party alliance had decided to instruct the respective subordinate bodies to implement its agreements made in view of the local elections slated for May 13.

The meeting had decided to direct for withdrawal of rebel candidacies filed at six metropolises and 11 sub-metropolises. Dissenting leaders have filed independent candidacies going against a seat-sharing agreement reached in the ruling alliance.
