Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday continued an interim order issued against the government’s decision to suspend Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.

A joint bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Justice Tanka Moktan gave continuity to the order issued by a single bench of Justice Hari Phunyal on April 19.

With the continuation of the order, Adhikari can work as a Governor until a final verdict on the case.

After a preliminary hearing on a writ filed against the suspension, a single bench of Justice Hari Phunyal on April 19 issued an interim order to the government not to implement the decision.

The apex court had summoned both the parties before the court on April 26.

Adhikari had moved the court seeking an order to scrap the government’s decision to form a committee to probe allegations leveled against him. The government had suspended Adhikari reasoning that he failed to accomplish the assigned duty of the central bank.

The Cabinet meeting held on April 7 had decided to investigate the role of Governor Adhikari accusing him of leaking sensitive information about NRB.
