Kathmandu: The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has split after a meeting of the disgruntled leaders decided to expel Netra Bikram Chand alias Biplav from the party.

A meeting of the leaders from the dissenting faction led by leaders Hemanta Prakash Oli and Dharmendra Bastola that kicked off in Chitwan on Wednesday removed Biplav as General Secretary of the party.

Leader of the group Gunaraj Lohani said that Chand was removed from the post of General Secretary on the grounds that he opted to participate in the local elections against the decision of the party’s central committee and had formed an alliance with parties supporting the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Lohani also said that Dharmendra Bastola has been appointed national coordinator by the meeting.

Earlier, the Biplav-led faction had expelled its Secretariat members Bastola and Oli from the party on the charge of acting against the party’s discipline.
