Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday refused to release former minister Mohammad Aftab Alam accused of the Rautahat massacre on bail.

A joint bench of Justices Sushma Lata Mathema and Nahakul Subedi upheld the decisions of Rautahat District Court and Janakpur High court to send Alam to judicial custody. Now, Alam has to stay in jail until a verdict on the case is pronounced.

He had moved the apex court challenging the order of Rautahat District Court and Janakpur High court to remand him to judicial custody.

The Janakpur High Court in February had sent the suspended lawmaker of Nepali Congress Alam to serve his custody in jail for allegedly murdering scores of his cadres injured in a bomb explosion some 14 years ago.
