Clashes reported in different places on election day

Kathmandu: Clashes have been reported in different parts of the country during voting in local-level elections on Friday.

Clashes between cadres of different political parties have occurred in Humla, Dolakha, Bara and Okhaldhunga among other districts.

Clashes have been reported in two voting centers of Adanchuli and Chankheli rural municipalities in Humla. Police opened fire in the air following clashes at Mahadev voting center in Chankheli Rural Municipality-2 between the cadres of the ruling alliance and independent candidates. Two including the Election Officer have been injured in the clash.

Likewise, clashes ensued in the voting center of Kukurfalna Hydropower Project located in Adanchuli-4. The police opened fire in the air after the clash. The voting resumed after a brief halt.

Meanwhile, police have opened fire in Bateshwor of Dolakha following a clash between two sides. Chief District Officer Bhojraj Khatiwada said that police opened the fire in the air to take the situation under control. The law enforcement agency said that the clash ensued after cadres of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML allegedly tried to capture the booth.

Voting has been suspended in Pachrauta Municipality-2 of Bara due to a clash between cadres of CPN-UML and Janata Samajwadi Party. According to a security official of the Armed Police Force, the police fired half a dozen tear gas shells to stop the clash. A large number of security personnel have been deployed.

Earlier today, polling was halted in Piparpati of Devtal Rural Municipality-7 of Bara due to clashes between cadres of Nepali Congress and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party. The voting that was halted for about two and a half hours has now resumed.

Similarly, a clash occurred in Champadevi of Okhaldhunga after a debate occurred between the supporters of the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML regarding the line in the voting center. A candidate for ward chairperson got injured in the clash that occurred in the Jeevanjyoti voting center at Champadevi Rural Municipality-9. The police opened the fire in the air following the clash.

Clashes have occurred between the cadres of political parties in Dhanakaul Rural Municipality of Sarlahi. The police opened six rounds of fire in the air following the clash between NC, CPN-UML, and CPN-Maoists cadres in ward 2 of the rural municipality. The voting is yet to begin.
