Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appealed to all sisters and brothers to cast their votes with confidence in the local elections to be held on May 13.

In a message today on the eve of the local body elections slated for Friday, President Bhandari said that as elections are the biggest celebration of a democracy, it is the responsibility of all of us to create an environment where every citizen can exercise his or her right to vote in a free, fair and fearless environment.

Stating that we should take the election as a special opportunity to bring the issues of development of the society and the nation to the doorsteps of the people, she said that the most beautiful aspect of democracy is the governance of the country by the elected representatives of the people. She said that the periodic elections formally express the sovereignty inherent in the people and the real source of state power in the people.
