Balen Shah set to be elected Kathmandu mayor

Kathmandu: Independent candidate Balen Shah is set to be elected mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Shah’s victory has been confirmed as the number of votes to be counted is less than the margin he is leading the mayoral race.

As per the latest update, Shah has received 55,777 votes. His closest contestant Sirjana Singh of the Nepali Congress (NC) has got 35,371 votes. Keshav Sthapit of CPN-UML is third with 34,626 votes.

Shah is leading Singh with a margin of 20,406 votes and Sthapit with a margin of 21,151 votes. Only 19,300 votes are left to be counted as the counting of votes of wards 13,14,15,16 and 17 is underway.

Likewise, UML’s deputy mayor candidate Sunita Dangol is set to win the election with a wide margin. Dangol has so far received 53,642 votes while Rameshwor Shrestha of CPN (Unified Socialist) has garnered 17, 765 votes.
