Woman dies as police open fire in Bardiya, five-member committee formed to probe incident

Kathmandu: A woman died after police opened fire to control a clash in Bardiya.

According to police, local Nabina Tharu died in the police firing. Tharu who had sustained bullet injuries breathed her last while being rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Asmita Tharu, 41, of Madhuwan Municipality-2, Sonaha was injured in a tiger attack at around 9 am on Monday. She was sent to Nepalgunj for treatment.

Local had resorted to protests blocking Hulaki Highway demanding to take the control the tiger under control and other demands.

Police opened fire in the air and lobbed tear gas canisters to control the clash after irate locals attacked police personnel. Local then torched three motorcycles of Nepal Police at a temporary police post in Orali Bazar.

A total of 14 police personnel were injured in the clash.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs had formed a five-member committee led by Joint Secretary Hari Ghimire to investigate the incident.
