Nepal Army Chief Sharma leaves for Lebanon

Kathmandu: Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Prabhu Ram Sharma has left for Lebanon on Saturday.

According to the Nepal Army Directorate of Public Relations, NA Chief Sharma left for the visit in a bid to boost the morale of Nepali peacekeepers in the war-hit countries.

Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Bal Krishna Karki bade a farewell to a seven-member Army team led by Sharma at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

The team is scheduled to take stock of the situation and operational activities of the Nepali peacekeepers in war-hit Lebanon and Syria. The Nepali Army personnel have been deployed to the countries for peacekeeping at the call of the United Nations.  

During the visit, the Army chief will meet with high-ranking officials of the UN mission in the countries.

Following this, CoAS Sharma is scheduled to visit the United States of America from June 27 to July 1 at an official invitation. He will return home on July 3.

A five-member delegation will involve in the visit. In the absence of the Army chief, LTG Karki has been assigned to serve as acting CoAS.
