Kathmandu: ‘Sabiti’, a play based on renowned author Jagdish Ghimire’s novel, will be staged by Theater village at Shilpee Theater, Battisputali from July 1 to 3.

The play is conceptualized and directed by Bimal Subedi, with the assistance of Zenny Sunuwar.

A well-known Indian Theatre artist Anuradha Majundher will be playing the lead role in the play. Some of her other works include ‘Khuma and ‘Baki Ujyalo’.

The novel was for the first time adapted into a play in 2013.

“Although the novel was written several years ago, ‘Sabiti’ still accurately represents the issues that plague today’s society. Ghimire was eager to see his novel being staged, but unfortunately, his demise came too early,” according to the director Bimal Subedi.

The lead artist Majumdher shared that the play vividly dissects various ideologies and forms of globalization, including patriarchy, social discrimination, political anomalies, education, and health.

Majumdher also said, “Through the female characters, the play examines the direct repercussions of class structure, gender, ethnicity, and economic distribution when the society’s stratum deviates from the road of equality.”

The play dives into numerous perspectives on the revolting society and has a nihilistic philosophical position. Sujan Oli and Sajan Kumar Sunuwar will be sharing the stage with Majumder.
