Nepal Smiling Children Project launched

Kathmandu: China Foundation for Rural Development and the China NGO Network for International Exchange on Monday jointly launched ‘The Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund Nepal Smiling Children Project’.

The project was launched at a function organized at Shanti Nikunja Secondary School in Kathmandu.

Liu Jianchao, Director of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee who is on a Nepal visit, Wang Xin, Charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal, Social Welfare Council Member Secretary Manoj Bhatta and Country Director of China Foundation for Rural Development Nepal Office among others were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the function, Liu Jianchao said that he was happy to visit the school and meet such lovely group of Nepali children.

“The Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund are China’s effort to build a global development partnership, comprehensively promote cooperation in poverty reduction, health education, digital connectivity and other fields, and improve the people’s livelihood of all countries,” he said.

“The project is launched through the China Foundation for Rural Development, which has worked in Nepal for eight years, and Nepal’s local partners to implement the smiling children project, hoping to provide enough food to the children in government schools of Nepal,” he added.

Also speaking, Minister Bhusal welcomed the visit by the Chinese leader and thanked Minister Liu for visiting the children in government schools in person. She also thanked the Chinese government for providing the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund to implement food package project in Nepal through the China Foundation for Rural Development.

“We will cherish the friendship between the Chinese people, make good use of this fund and use it for the children who need it most,” she said.

The Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund were put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping in the statement on ” Build a new era of global development partnership and work together to implement the 2030 agenda for sustainable development” at the conference of High-level Dialogue on Global Development on June 24 which has attracted the attention of the International Community and Chinese Non-Governmental Organizations.
