Kathmandu: An unidentified group on Monday evening vandalized garbage-laden tippers parked at Banchare Danda landfill site.

Deputy Superintendent at Kathmandu City Police Force Purna Chandra Bhatta said that 14 tippers, one dozer, and one excavator were vandalized at Aletar at the Sidole-Banchare Danda road section.

“The tippers had reached the landfill on Monday for garbage disposal. Local had yet again obstructed the disposal,” said DSP Bhatta.

Citing maintenance of the roads leading to the landfill site, Kathmandu Metropolitan City had not collected garbage for the past few weeks.

The residents of Banchare Danda have warned of stopping waste management in their neighborhood from August 17, citing the failure of the KMC to fulfill the agreements reached with them.

The KMC dwellers produce 500 metric tons of garbage every day and about 75 percent of the waste emitted from the valley is managed at Sisdole and Banchare Danda.
