Kathmandu: Cadres and leaders of the ruling parties have obstructed garbage disposal at the Banchare Danda landfill on Monday. Spokesperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Navin Manandhar said that garbage-landed tippers on the way to the landfill have been stopped.

“We have been informed that those who issued a statement yesterday (local leaders) have stopped the tippers from reaching the landfill,” he said.

Local leaders of three ruling parties—Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) issued a statement on Sunday night announcing that they will not allow garbage disposal from today.

Garbage has piled up in the streets of Kathmandu Valley for the past few days owing to frequent disruption in waste disposal.
