Kathmandu: As locals of Banchare Danda are obstructing waste disposal, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City is sending garbage trucks to the landfill site under police escort.

Earlier on Tuesday, as many as 186 garbage trucks reached the landfill site under police escort. As locals had obstructed the trucks, police fired five rounds in the air and some tear gas shells.

Police said they were compelled to open fire as locals pelted stones at them.

Over 200 Armed Police Force personnel from Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Dhading are deployed to escort the garbage trucks from Kathmandu to Banchare Danda.

According to Balen Shah, mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the metropolis has no intention of mobilizing police for waste disposal. “ No one should face any problem while managing waste. This is our commitment. The Metropolis is honest, conscious, and sensitive in its commitment”, said Mayor Shah.
