Janakpurdham: Police on Tuesday fired three shots in the air at Balan Bihul Rural Municipality-4 in Saptari district to seize goods smuggled from India.

The clash erupted when police tried to take control of the smugglers– smuggling goods to Nepal.

“The clash erupted when smugglers attacked police personnel who tried to confiscate smuggled goods,” said DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle, who is the spokesperson for the Saptari Police.

Three police officers were also injured as smugglers pelted stones at a police team while smuggling goods to Nepal, said Kafle.

A team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force has been deployed at the incident site. Acting on a tip-off, a police team reached a house where smuggled goods were stored. “The smugglers attacked police when they tried to raid the house,” he said.

Police have already started an investigation into the case.
