Kathmandu: Nepali Congress Rautahat Chapter has recommended Mohammad Aftab Alam currently in the judicial custody on the charge of a massacre as a candidate for the parliamentary elections.

A meeting of the work execution committee of NC Rautahat Constituency-2 recommended the name as the party’s nominee for the election slated for November 20. Along with Alam, the name Anju Jha has also been recommended by the committee.

Alam is presently under judicial custody after the Supreme Court on May 6 upheld the decisions of Rautahat District Court and Janakpur High court to send him to judicial custody.

He had moved to the apex court questioning the order of Rautahat District Court and Janakpur High court to remand him to judicial custody.

The Janakpur High Court in February had sent the suspended lawmaker of Nepali Congress Alam to serve his custody in jail for allegedly killing scores of his cadres injured in a bomb explosion some 14 years ago.
