Kathmandu: The Kathmandu District Court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of Sandeep Lamichhane, suspended caption of the Nepali national cricket team, by five days.

Although the district attorney office had demanded the remand extended by a week, the court extended the custody by five days, while directing the government attorney to file a case at the soonest.

A bench of Kathmandu District Court on October 10 had allowed police to keep Lamichhane under custody until October 13 for an investigation into a rape allegation against him. Lamichhane accused of raping a minor girl was presented before the court on Monday to seek the court’s permission for judicial custody.

Although Lamichhane was arrested on October 6 from Tribhuvan International Airport after arriving in Nepal, he was not presented before the court as the courts in Nepal were closed due to the Dashain festival.

Police had arrested Lamichhane immediately after he landed at the airport on a flight of Qatar Airways and was kept at Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala, where the victim girl had filed a rape complaint against him.

A minor girl had filed a rape case against Lamichhane on September 6 at a time when he was out of the country to play Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
