Kathmandu: Sandeep Lamichhane, suspended captain of Nepali national cricket team, has been sent to judicial custody by the Kathmandu District Court on Friday.

A single bench of  judge Madhav Ghimire decided to remand Lamichhane, accused of raping a minor, to judicial custody. Following the decision of the court, Lamichhane was sent to the Sundhara-based Central Jail.

On September 6, a minor girl had filed a rape case against Lamichhane, accusing him of raping her multiple times on August 25, a day before the Nepali national cricket team flew to Kenya to play ODI and T20Is series.

A month after the case was filed, police arrested Lamichhane from the Tribhuvan International Airport.
