US congratulates Nepal PM Prachanda

Kathmandu: The United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has congratulated Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on becoming the prime minister of Nepal. “Congratulations to Pushpa Kamal Dahal and coalition partners on your victory in Nepal’s federal election,” Blinken wrote  on Twitter. “The United States supports Nepal’s democratic process and looks forward to working together to build on our robust and longstanding ties.”

The statement released by the US embassy in Kathmandu has reiterated the message of Blinken. It further says that the US will continue to stand with the government of Nepal to promote issues of bilateral, regional, and global importance, such as achieving sustainable economic growth and strengthening democracy and human rights.

“Nepal’s commitment to democracy is an example to countries around the world, and we commend all those involved.  We look forward to supporting Nepal as it continues to deepen its democratic traditions,” the statement said.

Earlier on December 25, the day Prachanda was appointed Prime Minister, the US ambassador to Nepal Dean R Thompson had also congratulated him. The US looks forward to “further strengthening our 75-yr partnership & working together to support democracy, human rights, and economic growth,” Thompson had posted on Twitter.
