Kathmandu: The government has announced that it will be granting a public holiday on January 11 to celebrate Prithvi Jayanti. This decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday evening, in response to a demand from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

The party had set a condition for a vote of confidence in favor of the government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, demanding a public holiday on the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti, which is marked on Paush 27.
The cabinet meeting also approved the government’s common minimum program. This program, which was prepared by a task force led by CPN-UML Vice President Bishnu Paudel, included a recommendation to give a public holiday on the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti to honor the historical integration of Nepal.
