Kathmandu: The government has stepped up its efforts to rescue 19 Nepali workers who were held hostage in Malaysia in the course of foreign employment. These Nepali workers, who arrived in Malaysia on September 8 to work in the supplier company from Sanepa’s Search Requirement Manpower, remain stranded there.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) took the initiative to know the situation and rescue the workers following media reports that Nepali workers were being held hostage in Malaysia for the past eight days.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had directed the concerned agencies through Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi to make all-out efforts to rescue the Nepali workers in a serious manner, informed PM’s press coordinator Surya Kiran Sharma.

Media reports had revealed that the agent had put the Nepali workers who reached Malaysia for employment on hostage at a hotel in a local city.

The victim workers claimed that the company had misbehaved with them in a job against the agreement. They also complained that they were beaten up while raising voice for justice in the company.
