Rabi Lamichhane reacquires Nepali citizenship

On Friday, the Supreme Court annulled his status as a parliamentarian stating that he did not have a valid Nepali citizenship certificate.

Kathmandu: Former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has reacquired his Nepali citizenship certificate on Sunday. 

The Kathmandu District Administration Office issued the certificate to Lamichhane, acting on an application he filed for reacquiring his Nepali citizenship card, said assistant Chief District Officer Devi Pandey Khatri.

On Friday, the Supreme Court annulled his status as a parliamentarian stating that he did not have a valid Nepali citizenship certificate. 

Following the court’s verdict, his status as minister and president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party was revoked. 

He was elected the Member of the House of Representatives after winning the November 20 elections from Chitwan constituency 2.
