Kathmandu: Rabi Lamichhane, who recently lost his position as president of Rastriya Swatantra Party, has regained the position on Sunday, after reacquiring his citizenship certificate.

A central committee meeting of the party decided to reinstate him as party president.

The party had previously named Dol Prasad Aryal, the party’s vice-president, as the acting president on Friday.

The party plans to officially update the Election Commission with Lamichhane’s reinstatement as president, but will continue to have Aryal, who is also the labor minister, serve as parliamentary party leader, as Lamichhane is no longer a lawmaker.

Earlier on Friday, the Supreme Court concluded that Rabi Lamichhane is not eligible to remain a member of parliament. A constitutional bench of the Supreme Court annulled Rabi Lamichhane’s status as a lawmaker, concluding that his citizenship is invalid.

With the verdict, Lamichhane also lost the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, and party president.
