Kathmandu: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has appointed Monty Desai as the new head coach of the Nepali men’s national cricket team.

Desai has held coaching roles with Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, Canda, Indian regional teams and IPL teams Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions.

“The decision of the CAN to  appoint Desai as the head coach has been approved by the National Sports Council,” a member of the CAN told Nepal Live Today.

Until a few months ago, Desai was the batting coach of the West Indies national cricket team.

Nepal is hosting Scotland and Namibia in a Tri-series under the ICC CWC League 2 from February 14.

The Cricket Association of Nepal opened the vacancy in January after Manoj Prabhakar resigned from the role on December 15.

Earlier in 2015, Desai worked with the Nepali national cricket team for the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers. Desai has also worked as the batting consultant of Nepal’s U19 side for the ACC U19 Eastern Region cricket tournament in 2017.
