Kathmandu: The government has declared a nationwide public holiday for Monday in commemoration of People’s War Day. The decision was made during a Council of Ministers meeting held on Sunday.

The People’s War Day marks the start of the armed conflict that took place from February 13, 1996, and formally ended on November 21, 2006, following a comprehensive peace agreement.

The first day of Falgun is annually celebrated as the People’s War Day by the CPN (Maoist Centre), the former insurgent group that now leads the current government.
