Kathmandu: Sher Bahadur Deuba, the president of the Nepali Congress, is making efforts to revive the alliance of five parties that was broken after the federal and provincial parliamentary elections in November.
Deuba has proposed to form the new alliance of five parties before the presidential election on March 9 and has met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the chair of the Maoist Center, in Baluwatar. Accompanying Deuba are Purna Bahadur Khadka, the vice president of the party, and Gagan Thapa, the general secretary of the party.
Before arriving in Baluwatar, Nepali Congress leaders met with the leaders of the CPN (Unified Socialist) in Dhumbarahi, and during the meeting, Madhav Kumar Nepal, the president of CPN (Unified Socialist), expressed positivity towards reviving the earlier alliance of five parties, according to a leader who attended the meeting and spoke to Nepal Live Today.
Currently, Deuba, Khadka, and Thapa of the Nepali Congress, along with Prachanda and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, are in Baluwatar holding a meeting. According to a source, Deuba is assuring Dahal that he will be the prime minister for the full five-year term and that the president will be from the Nepali Congress.
The electoral alliance of five parties, including the Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Rastriya Janamorcha, and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, was broken after the elections.
