Voter turnout in by-elections lower than November elections 

By-elections witness lower voter turnout compared to previous elections in November.

Kathmandu: The voter turnout in the by-elections for three constituencies was 57.33 percent, which is lower than the voter turnout in the November elections.

As per the Election Commission, the voter turnout in Tanahun-1 was 51 percent, whereas it was 54.3 percent in the November elections. The constituency was vacant after Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Paudel, who was the elected lawmaker from the constituency, became the president.

In Chitwan-2, the voter turnout was 60 percent, which is lower than the 67.63 percent recorded in the November elections. The constituency became vacant after the Supreme Court invalidated Rabi Lamichhane’s citizenship. He was previously elected as a lawmaker.

Bara-2 saw the highest voter turnout among all the constituencies at 61 percent, although it was lower than the 63.56 percent recorded in the last elections. The constituency was vacant as the elected lawmaker Ram Saya Yadav became the vice president.
