As monsoon becomes active, Karnali provincial government prepares for disaster response

Provincial government's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law is convening a meeting of the executive committee to prepare the action plan for disaster preparedness and response.

Kathmandu: The Karnali provincial government has started preparedness for disaster response to mitigate the loss of lives and property due to disaster. The monsoon has become active in Karnali from Monday, according to the local meteorological office. The provincial government’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law is convening a meeting of the executive committee today to prepare the action plan for disaster preparedness and response. The meeting will also hold necessary discussions and make decision for making the rescue and relief works efficient. Provincial government spokesperson and minister for internal affairs and law, Krishna Bahadur GC said that the Executive Committee is holding its meeting under the chairmanship of the Internal Affairs Minister. The thematic ministries and other stakeholders will attend the meeting to chalk out the disaster preparedness action plan.

He said a meeting of the Province Disaster Management Council will be held immediately after the meeting of the executive committee to endorse the action plan. Internal Affairs Ministry secretary Dhruba Ghimire said the meeting will determine the role and responsibilities of the line ministries, the security bodies, partner organizations, civil society and media in connection to disaster preparedness, response and mitigation, in view of the monsoon which has already entered the province.
