Petition filed against Kathmandu mayor Shah

Kathmandu: A petition has been filed at the Supreme Court, claiming that recent remarks made by Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah is contempt of court. The writ has been filed by advocate Barsha Kumari Jha.

On Thursday, Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah, posting a status on Facebook, refused to comply with the ruling of the Patan High Court, which ordered the authorities not to restrict the screening of Hindi movies in Kathmandu. 

The high court had issued an interlocutory order, instructing the authorities not to intervene in the screening of any movie approved by the censor board in Nepal.

According to Article 126(2), the Supreme Court has the authority to initiate contempt proceedings and impose penalties if someone obstructs the administration of justice or disregards any order or judgment issued by the court or any of its subordinate courts.
