Police arrest communication secretary in connection with Lalita Niwas land scam

Kathmandu: Police have arrested Krishna Bahadur Raut, secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in connection with Lalita Niwas land scam.

A team of police from the Central Investigation Bureau arrested Raut from Tribhuvan International Airport for his alleged involvement in the case of transferring the government land of Lalita Niwas in the name of private individuals. Raut was on the way to Biratnagar from the airport.

Last week, police issued an arrest warrant against high-ranking bureaucrats, including Raut, in connection with the land scam.

Also, arrest warrants were issued against four former secretaries on charge of their involvement in the Lalita Niwas land misappropriation scam. The former bureaucrats against whom the warrant has been issued include Deep Basnyat, Chhabi Raj Panta, Dinesh Hari Adhikary and Narayan Gopal Malego on the charge of their involvement in transferring the government land in the name of individuals, informed Nepal Police spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Kuber Kadayat.
