Kathmandu: Nepali Congress General Secretary and lawmaker Gagan Kumar Thapa has demanded a thorough investigation on the attack on Congress joint general secretary Mahendra Yadav. Thapa drew the attention of the government toward this case in parliament on Thursday.

Mahendra Yadav was attacked with a khukuri in Kathmandu on Wednesday. Shyambabu Sapkota, a resident of Nuwakot, had attacked Yadav. While police arrested Sapkota on Wednesday, Yadav is undergoing treatment at ICU in Trauma Center.

Thapa said that he had met a medical team responsible for the care of injured Yadav and was informed that Yadav had narrowly survived the attack. “The person behind the attack has been apprehended and attempts are being made to normalize the incident citing that the alleged did it out of his unstable mental state,” Thapa said.

Lawmaker Thapa demanded the government carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and bring out facts surrounding the attack. He also raised concerns over the safety of political people while walking the streets of Kathmandu. “Some give a threat of arson while others resort to an assault with the use of a Khukuri,” he said.”Has it become unsafe for us to walk alone?”

He also drew the government’s attention towards the demise of a girl in want of treatment for two hours at an emergency ward of Kanti Children’s Hospital.
