Kathmandu: The America Nepal Medical Foundation is deeply concerned at the latest incidents of increasing violence, both physical aggression and verbal abuse against doctors in Nepal, it said.

Issuing a statement, the foundation said that it stands in solidarity with the medical community, and requests the government and law enforcements in Nepal to investigate and book the perpetrators.

The foundation also requests the Nepal Medical Council and other concerned authorities to create and support resources to report and investigate concerns in an ethical and equitable setting.

“The consequences of such violence can be devastating to both the medical community and the general public, including serious impact on mental health, physical injuries even death among doctors, anxiety and fear leading to practice of defensive medicine resulting in subpar management and increasing cost for patients, and distrust on both sides,” it said in the statement.
