Nepali film festival likely in Brussels in 2024

Ambassador designate of the Delegation of European Union to Nepal hinted at the possibility while interacting with audience during special screening of Mohan Rai's Mahanagar in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu: Ambassador designate of the Delegation of European Union to Nepal Veronique Lorenzo has said that the EU might organize Nepali film festival in Brussels in 2024. She said this while addressing the audience in an interaction at a special screening of Mahanagar, the film directed by Mohan Rai. On the occasion she lauded the interests of the Nepali youth in cinema.

A large number of audience comprising diplomats, artists and academicians watched the film and participated in interaction at Bishwajyoti Hall Friday evening.

Mahanagar tells a story of youths coming to the Kathmandu Valley from different parts of the country and their struggle to make their ends meet. The film has been nominated for various national and international festivals and also won awards.

Mahanagar was screened in Kolkotta International Film Festival in 2021. It was officially screened at Brooklyn Film Festival, Nepal-America International Film Festival, Washington DC South Asian Film Festival, Asian Film Festival Barcelona (Spain), Pame International Film Festival (Nepal) and Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF).

It was also selected for screening in Indus Valley International Film Festival where it won the ‘most inspirational theme’ award, while also winning best film, best plot, best acting and best director award from NIFF.
