On NRNA conference eve, PM pledges to secure voting rights of Nepali diaspora

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said on Sunday that the government is making efforts to establish the voting rights for non-resident Nepalis (NRNs), adding that the government is working to address the citizenship issues raised by the NRNs. “We are not only concerned of social security of Nepalis residing outside the country, but also working to address their demands for a franchise and the citizenship,” he said.

PM’s remarks come on the eve of the 11th Global Conference and International General Assembly of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) which is taking place in Kathmandu from Tuesday. The convention coincides with the 20th anniversary of the NRNA. The conference, scheduled to be inaugurated by President Ramchandra Paudel, will elect office bearers of the International Coordination Council of the NRNA. Hundreds of Nepali diaspora living and working in various countries of the world have gathered in Kathmandu to participate in the conference.
