Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha left for Beijing on Monday to participate in the third Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) conference, titled as Belt and Road Forum (BRF). The third BRF is taking place in Beijing from October 17-18.

Meanwhile, Former Prime Minister and Unified Socialist leader Jhalanath Khanal also embarked on a trip to China to participate in BRF on Sunday. He is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the BRF.

This is the second time Nepal is participating in BRI conference from a ministerial level. While the then deputy prime minister and finance minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara had participated in the first conference in 2017, former President Bidya Devi Bhandari had participated in the second BRI conference in 2019.

Though there has been no tangible outcome on BRI projects since Nepal signed the framework agreement on BRI in 2017, and financing modality for the BRI projects is yet to be finalized, both Nepal and China continue to reiterate their commitment to execute the BRI project in Nepal.
