Kathmandu: The government has placed the controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai under “house arrest”. Nepal Police officials have surrounded Durga Prasai’s residence in Bhaktapur.

Prasai, who leads the “Nation, Nationality, Religion-Culture, and Citizen Rescue Campaign,” has issued a threat to overthrow the current regime with the aim of restoring the monarchy and reestablishing the Hindu Kingdom.

In a tense confrontation on Thursday, police deployed water cannons and tear gas to disperse supporters of the controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, accusing him of inciting the crowd.

Today, police have arrested eight protesters on charges of pelting stones at police officials.
