Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has planned to install lifts at an overhead bridge in Baneshwor for convenience of senior citizens. According to Metropolis traffic advisor Jagatman Shrestha, they plan to fix a lift each at both sides of the bridge. Though the facility is primarily targeted at senior citizens, people who need it can use it. It will be beneficial for physically incapacitated, people with disabilities and children. Eight people can use a lift at once.

The local government allocated Rs 50 million to implement the project in the current fiscal year. According to Shrestha, a bidding process has neared the final phase and it will be materialized in a week. Some volunteers will be mobilized to supervise the elevators. The local government is also focused on improving conditions of roadways within its jurisdictions and has allocated Rs 440 million for the plan in the current fiscal year.
