Kathmandu: The death toll from the Balkumari incident has risen to two, as another injured individual succumbed to his injuries. The deceased victim has been identified as Birendra Shahi from Doti, who passed away while receiving treatment at the ICU in Patan Hospital, according to the police.

Earlier, 23-year-old Sujan Raut, originally from Dailekh, had been taken to Kist Hospital in Imadol for treatment after sustaining a bullet injury during a clash. He died in the course of treatment.

Birendra Shahi succumbed to injuries caused by police firing while undergoing treatment at Patan Hospital. Spokesperson of Nepal Police, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kuber Kadayat, verified the death of Birendra Shahi.

The incident unfolded when a group of enraged youths set ablaze the vehicle of Minister Prakash Jwala. The anger was fueled by their dissatisfaction at not being permitted to fill out the application forms for the Employment Permit System (EPS) on the day of the incident.
