Court sentences Sandeep Lamichhane to eight years in prison

Kathmandu: The Kathmandu District Court has sentenced cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, convicted of rape, to an eight-year jail term.

A single bench of judge Shishir Raj Dhakal, pronouncing the jail term, slapped Rs 300,000 fine and ordered the cricketer to pay Rs 200,000 in compensation to the victim.

The court on January 29 had convicted Lamichhane of raping a teenage girl in a hotel in Kathmandu. The court had scheduled a hearing to determine the jail term today.
