Kathmandu: In response to escalating tensions following protests over the Rautahat incident, the Parsa District Administration Office has announced an indefinite curfew in Birgunj, effective immediately. The decision comes after demonstrations erupted in the city on Monday, sparked by a clash between two groups in Ishnath Municipality-7 of Rautahat district.
Over the weekend, the Rautahat District Administration Office had already enforced an indefinite curfew following clashes during the immersion of an idol of the goddess Saraswati.
Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal invoked Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 1971, to issue the curfew order, which covers a significant portion of the metropolitan area, including Nagawa Chowk in the east, Tilawe bridge in the west, Parwanipur in the north, and Miteripul in the south.
Under the curfew, all gatherings, meetings, processions, rallies, and movement on the roads are strictly prohibited.
