Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ secured a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

This is the third time Dahal has obtained a vote of confidence since being elected as Prime Minister on December 25, 2022.

In the confidence motion, 157 lawmakers voted in favor of Dahal, the chair of CPN (Maoist Center), while 110 voted against him. One lawmaker remained neutral.

A total of 268 lawmakers were present in today’s house meeting. According to the constitution, the Prime Minister must secure at least 138 votes in the 275-member House of Representatives, the lower house of parliament.

Dahal’s confidence motion received support from CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (UML), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Janta Samajwadi Party, Nagrik Unmukti Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), and a few independent lawmakers.

Dahal sought a vote of confidence as the Maoist party distanced itself from the Nepali Congress and formed a new alliance with the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist).
