Distribution of Melamchi water begins in Balaju area

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), the water supply authority in Kathmandu Valley, on Friday started distribution of water from Melamchi Drinking Water Project in the Balaju area.

The water was supplied from 5 am this morning.

KUKL Chief Executive Officer at Milan Shakya said that the water is being distributed at Nayabazar, Sohrakhutte, Balaju area of Kathmandu.

Earlier, the water was poured to Balaju tank.

“Among the tanks in the Valley, only Bansbari is left to be supplied with the water. It will not take long now,” he added.

Initially, 40 million liters of water were being brought per day to a water treatment plant located in Sundarijal. Now, the water supply has been increased to 85 million liters per day.

With the completion of the much-awaited water project, the water is being supplied in the Kathmandu Valley for the past five days. In the first phase, it was supplied to Purano Mahankal, Minbhawan, Anamnagar, and Khumaltar.
