408 climbers permitted to climb Mt Everest this spring season

Kathmandu: Highest number of permits has been issued for climbing Mount Everest for the spring season despite the second coronavirus wave surging across Nepal at an alarming rate.

The Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has permitted 408 climbers of 43 groups to climb the world’s highest mountain this season.

Among them are 315 males and 93 females.

In 2019, 41 teams were issued permits for climbing Mount Everest.

A total of 14 groups of climbers have been allowed to climb Mt Lhotse as five groups have been permitted to climb Mt Dhaulagiri and four Mt Annapurna.
