Kathmandu: Nepal Army (NA) personnel have started performing funeral rites of Covid-19 victims in makeshift funeral pyres on the banks of Bagmati River after the electric crematorium at Pashupati Aryaghat runs out of capacity.

Member Secretary of the Pashupati Area Development Trust, Dr Pradip Dhakal, stated that around 30 dead bodies of Covid-19 victims are brought for last rites daily.

As the number of dead bodies has started increasing in the electric crematorium, five devices that will run on firewood are being added.

Nepal on Monday had registered record-high coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. Health authorities in Nepal had recorded 7,448 new coronavirus cases. The death toll caused by the pandemic has reached 3,362 with 37 fatalities in the last 24 hours.
