Kathmandu: Taking account of a rapid surge of Covid-19 cases, the Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has declared a ‘red alert’ throughout the country on Wednesday.

Issuing a press statement, the association stated that Nepal’s health sector has reached a very critical situation and urged everyone to unite in a fight against the virus.

“Nepal health sector is overwhelmed by Covid-19 cases due to the incompetence of the government”, the release reads.

Nepal is struggling with a second wave of the pandemic with record-high new coronavirus cases being reported in the past few days. Hospitals are reeling under a shortage of medical oxygen and running out of beds. Major hospitals are refusing to admit new patients citing a lack of oxygen.

Likewise, the association has appealed to the president to clear all the political disputes and make all the leaders stand together to tackle the pandemic.
