Bibeksheel Sajha Party leader Ujwal Thapa passes away

Kathmandu: Ujwal Thapa, Founder of Bibeksheel Campaign and Former Chairperson of Bibeksheel Sajha Party, passed away on Tuesday. He was 44.

Thapa was undergoing treatment at the Lalitpur-based Mediciti Hospital on ventilator support. He was diagnosed with Covid-19 two weeks ago and was put on a ventilator on Friday.

Coordinator of the party Milan Pandey said in a Facebook post said that leader Thapa breathed his last at 4:25 pm.

Social media was flooded with prayers for Thapa after news that the leader was battling with a serious illness.

Although undergoing treatment due to fragile health, he had tested negative in the last test for Covid-19, according to the press statement issued by his family and well-wishers.

The statement reads, “We are hopeful that his long-standing efforts and positive interventions aimed at reforming the political system of Nepal, the differences made in the lives of people by Thapa, the continuous encouragement to include youth in the mainstream politics among others will be evaluated by the history and will be remembered for a long time.”

The statement issued by the Party’s President Rabindra Mishra and coordinator Milan Pandey also urged late Thapa’s fans, well-wishers, and party’s activities to consider tree plantation on the 13th Memorial Day of late Thapa. On that day, discussions will be held to highlight the contributions made by Thapa in domestic politics, according to the press statement.
