Sudurpaschim Chief Minister Trilochan Bhatta secures vote of confidence

Kathmandu: Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Trilochan Bhatta secured a vote of confidence in voting held on Tuesday.

A total of 30 votes were cast in favor of his trust motion while nine lawmakers stood against the confidence motion. A total of 12 lawmakers abstained. CM Bhatta needed 27 votes to get confidence in the provincial assembly.

Bhatta was supported by CPN (Maoist Center) and Madhav Kumar Nepal faction of UML. The Nepali Congress (NC) remained neutral. Although UML had officially withdrawn support to the government, the Madhav Kumar Nepal faction of the party supported the Chief Minister. A meeting of the UML Standing Committee held on June 24 had decided to withdraw its support to the government.

There are 25 lawmakers from UML, 14 from CPN (Maoist Center), 13 from NC, and two from Janata Samajbadi in the provincial assembly. A total of 51 lawmakers were present today.
