Monsoon mayhem: Flood inundates Melamchi Bazaar, many dead and hundreds stranded

Kathmandu: Monsoon-induced floods in the Melamchi River have caused huge loss of life and properties in Melamchi Bazaar of Sindhupalchowk.

The flashflood has inundated settlements on the river banks and washed away houses and bridges. Sindhupalchok was devastated by the 2015 earthquake and has endured numerous calamities in recent years.

According to the police, the swollen river has washed away a dozen suspension bridges and houses. Scores of people are reportedly missing, with seven dead bodies retrieved so far.
