Monsoon not likely to weaken soon, warn meteorologists

Kathmandu: Meteorologists have said the monsoon that has become active for some days is not weakening immediately.

Meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Shanti Kandel, said since the monsoon entered the country and become active from the very beginning this year, it is not likely to weaken very soon.

“Since the monsoon entered in an active state this year, its influence will remain for still some more days. Therefore, the trend of rainfall will continue for few more days,” she explained.

According to her, the impact of the monsoon wind will however weaken after some days. It has been raining continuously due to the monsoon that has become active three days before the usual date this year.

The Met Department said the weather is partly to generally cloudy throughout the country now and light rainfall is taking place in the hilly region of the country including in Province no 1 and Sudurpaschim province due to the monsoon wind.

It will be generally to fully cloudy throughout the country today with chances of light to moderate rain in many places. There is possibility of heavy rainfall along with thunder at few places of Province No 1 and Gandaki, Lumbini and Bagmati provinces this afternoon.

Therefore, the Department has called for the adoption of precaution in these areas. This trend of rainfall will continue on Sunday and Monday as well, the Department stated.
